The mind is like water. When it is turbulent, it’s difficult to see.
When it becomes calm, everything becomes clear.

Mindfulness & self-compassion

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a state of heightened awareness to both internal and external stimuli. The practice of mindfulness can be used to simply calm and clear your head or recognize antecedents to problem behaviors It can also be used to bring nourishment to your whole system, to clarify values or priorities in a given situation, to discern the source of suffering in your life and illuminate the path needed for healing, or to address chronic pain.

Mindfulness has both psychic and physiological benefits and I weave it into much of what we do together in the therapy room.

Self-Compassion

The sister to mindfulness for me is self-compassion. When we do not nurture and honor ourselves, we convince ourselves that we are smaller than we are. In our work together, you will learn to be aware of seemingly insignificant insults to your core self-value, and recognize how those may be creating barriers to positive change in your life. We open ourselves up to greater truths about ourselves not to condemn or judge, but to embrace and nurture and love.
